About the Void

More in depth information about the Void itself.

First, there is no natural light in the Void. It is an inky darkness that permeates in all directions. There is, however, artificial light. The roads are lit with street lamps, and electrical lighting exists indoors. Where the electricity comes from is a question better left unasked.

Gravity exists in the sense that there is a down concept, and people will pulled in that direction. Likewise, an up concept exists that is opposite to down, and what exists up is a giant disc.

The disc is flat, faintly luminous, but otherwise featureless. If a character is in the Blue Sector, they will notice that the Hex reaches all the way up to the disc. It is a very long way to the disc. The disc is capable of broadcasting messages to all regions of the Void. If a character can fly, they will notice that no matter how high they fly, the disc will never look any closer.

The ground is paved with something that looks similar to stone, but has the texture of foam. The streets are surrounded with railing, and beyond the railing is what appears to be nothing. Venturing out into the non-paved parts will cause a character to "die", that is begin falling for an undetermined length of time. It could be forever. It could be five minutes. Either way, when they land, they will arrive in the Gray Sector. The Gray Sector has bits and pieces of paved ground, but they disappear and appear randomly. Falling in the Gray Sector will cause one to land in the Gray Sector. There is no escape from the Gray Sector other than waiting for a small gate to appear.

Characters cannot die. However, they can be injured, torn apart, blown to bits, eaten, burned into ash, turned into lima bean, etc. without losing awareness of their self. It's actually a lot worse than death, probably, being aware of all the sensations of being digested. If that should happen, a guardian will do their best to track down as much of a character's remains as possible and throw them over the railing. When anyone is tossed into the wilderness of the Void, they will instantly be restored! Wounds will heal, bodies will be rebuilt, etc.! It's really nice, except for the part where they will land in the Gray Sector for an indefinite period of time.

Objects from the outside world can be pulled in from a small gate. Every once in a while, the disc shall announce a predicted small gate opening. No one has to fall through during that time, but permanent residents will appear near the estimated location with strange hook-like objects. When the gate opens, they will reach in with the hooks and attempt to pull something useful out. This is known as harvesting, and is the only method of attaining objects to add to the Void.

With that said, the permanent residents have been here for a long, long time, and they amassed a large number of things that are not being put into use. There is a storage facility in the Red Sector that is home to these objects. All of them are in good working condition. It's more than likely that one will find whatever they need, provided it isn't something too obscure or strange.

Building materials seem to come from no where. Creating new buildings is as difficult as asking a permanent resident to sent a request through the disc.

For the most part, it's best not to question what goes on.
